A balcony in an apartment can be a focal point, a thing of beauty, and it doesn`t take a lot of complicated design features to get it there. With the right window treatment, your balcony will feel more like the luxury that it is. It doesn`t matter what is on the other side of the balcony window - a tiny wooden porch or a lavish carpeted getaway. That window is likely to be great source of light in your home, so it should be treated with care and decorated to suit your needs. To begin, assess where the balcony window is in your home and what the window provides in that location. If it's in the dining room or kitchen, let the sunlight and fresh air in! It might be nice to grow a little herb garden near your window to have fresh herbs for cooking. If it's in the bedroom, living room, or den, this may be your only window, so it's ventilation and a view. Your window covering will be different for French doors than for sliding glass doors. For French doors, a large Roman shade may work, but could be a bulky choice; curtains that attach to the door are common, but are often not moveable; and some use a traditional curtain rod and drapes so that when the doors open, the curtains do too.
